Cedric Morris is considered to be one of the oldest preserved sweet peas and is very close to the wild species Lathyrus odoratus. It provides a good picture of what sweet peas looked like before more than three hundred years of cultivation took off.
The first sweet pea seeds were sent from Sicily to England in the 17th century, and it is from this origin that Cedric Morris derives its expression. The flowers are small, deeply colored in crimson and violet, and sit on short stems – far from today's large, wavy varieties. The scent, however, is strong and clear, just like that of the earliest sweet peas.
The plants grow to about 80–120 cm high and produce an abundance of flowers, but in a neat and simple format. A variety for those who are curious about the history of the sweet pea and want to grow something close to its origin.

Care and growing tips
When you receive your seeds, you will always get a folder with pictures and information to read at your leisure. The seeds should not be soaked. Always store the seeds in the freezer, where they will maintain their viability for 50+ years. In other words, you don't need to sow the entire packet at once. Please read our growing advice here
